Andrene Low’s graduation piece from a presentation skills course entitled, “Breeding Before Forty”, garnered enough laughs to persuade her to take part in a rookies’ night at an Auckland comedy club. The club asked her back and she stayed on the professional stand-up comedy circuit for three years, before retiring to concentrate on her writing.
Through contacts at the comedy club she wrote an episode of Steve Man, a New Zealand radio serial about a space traveller. The format of the serial was that whoever was writing an episode did their upmost to stitch up the person writing the following one. Consequently, every episode ended with an elaborate cliff hanger. She enjoyed the challenge.
